The idea for this blog was born on a rare, busy and sleep-deprived morning. I would tell you the rest of the story, but I don't actually remember it.
What I can tell you is that we were all so excited about the idea that we couldn't stop batting around ideas for Days And Days afterwards. In creating this blog we combined our superpowers, our diverse stages in life, and our varying approaches to the kitchen with no animal testing and very little bloodshed.
We do have some things in common. We all enjoy and value each other's input. We think it's important to live providently, and know that this varies a lot by context. We know how hard it can be to deal with the emotional issues surrounding food, health, and bodies, and we think this is worth talking and supporting each other about. We love food, and appreciate how challenging, interesting, and worthwhile it can be to give it the respect it deserves.
From a practical perspective, we agree that there are four characteristics which are particularly important:
-Nutrition
Everyone will have different priorities here based on their own health, but the basics remain the same; whole grains, lean protein, and fresh fruits and vegetables.
-Sensory awesomeness (known by the technical term "yumminess.")
For a lot of people, this is what cooking is all about; essential to the psychological aspects of nurturing with food.
-Cost
How much it costs.
-Convenience
How long it takes and how hard it is.
We also think it's important to remember the value in an impractical perspective; we are, after all, of a very loaves and fishes sort of house, where not quite enough magically becomes plenty.
So, here it is. We sincerely hope only the best kinds mayhem may ensue.
